The Nursing Department of St. Louis University Institute Douala celebrated International Nurses Day with glamour, reflection, and entertainment during a colorful gala night held at the Bonaberi campus on Saturday, May 16, 2026.
The celebration, which brought together students, lecturers, administrators, and invited guests, was the climax of a week-long series of activities organized to honor the nursing profession and recognize the vital role nurses play in society.

Leading up to the gala night, nursing students engaged in health talks, medical screenings, awareness campaigns, and educational outreach activities aimed at promoting healthcare and highlighting the significance of International Nurses Day. Messages shared throughout the week emphasized compassion, sacrifice, and the humanitarian spirit that defines the nursing profession.

Saturday’s gala transformed the Bonaberi campus into a lively center of culture, unity, and celebration. Nursing students from all campuses of the institution in Douala gathered alongside students from other departments for an evening filled with talent displays, music, and social interaction.

One of the most memorable moments of the night was a symbolic reenactment of ancient nursing traditions. Dressed in ceremonial attire, a student carried a glowing lamp through the hall — a powerful symbol of the light, care, and hope nurses bring to humanity. The performance paid tribute to the founding mothers of modern nursing and reminded attendees of the profession’s rich history and noble mission.

School administrators used the occasion to encourage students to remain committed to professionalism, compassion, and service to humanity. They praised the nursing students for their dedication and emphasized the importance of healthcare workers in strengthening communities and saving lives.

The atmosphere grew even more vibrant as guest artists, including Love J and King Luca, thrilled the audience with energetic performances that kept students dancing and singing throughout the night.

The celebration ended in an atmosphere of joy and togetherness, with students dancing, taking photographs, and sharing memorable moments. For many attendees, the gala was not only a celebration of nursing but also a reminder of the unity, resilience, and passion that define the next generation of healthcare professionals.
