A journalist has been attacked in Bamenda, capital of the NWR,and his equipments destroyed.
Fabris Kehdinga, Editor-In- Chief of Bamenda based Television ROCTV had his camera destroyed by furious mourners after the Journalist visited a family compound following the news of the dead of a child who drowned in a river.
The Journalist who had filmed the distressed atmosphere before the attacked by on lookers and mourners narrowly escaped the scene.
The incident occurred on Monday April 1 2024,at Street 5 Mulang ,a community in Bamenda 2 subdivision, Northwest Region of Cameroon.
The Committee to Protect journalists,CPJ in Africa reports that Cameroon is one of the worst countries on earth for Journalists as reporters face very challenges ranging from unlawful detention, assault, threats and even death in-line with their duty.
Non governmental organizations and Civil Society Organisation have been urging the government of Cameroon to do more and ensure that journalists are protected.
According to the story ,a teenager known as Desmond could not survive as he went fishing with his friend at a small river at Ngomgham.
All attempts to rescue the child were futile,he was pulled out of the river several hours later and confirmed dead at the Bamenda Regional Hospital.
The news of the tragic death of the Primary 6 pupil of Alou Primary and Secondary school Street 1 Mulang ,sent shock waves across the neighborhood.
At press time, burial arrangements were underway.
