2025PE: PROF MAURICE KAMTO SENDS WARNING SIGNAL TO PAUL BIYA.
Ahead of the 2025 presidential election in Cameroon, tension is gathering between the opposition: Cameroon Raniassance Movement,CRM and the rulling Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement, CPDM.
2018 presidentail Candidate Maurice Kamto has in a press release told Biya that things will not be taken lightly again.
His “radical” outing comes after Paul Biya who has been in power for 42 years appointed a CPDM Central Committee member into the Constitutional Council; the organ which publishes results.
Read Kamto’s statement below.
“The appointment, on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, of Mrs. Monique OULI NDONGO, activist of the DRPC, former senator of the CPDM from 2013 to 2018, and member of the central committee of this party since 2011, to the Constitutional Council is an additional act of defiance to the democracy of the outgoing President of the Republic On the eve of next October’s presidential election”.
This appointment, which comes as the Constitutional Council has just been distinguished by a shocking decision of incompetence on an essential issue, such as the application of Article 80 of the Electoral Code on the publication of the national electoral roll, bodes very bad for the forthcoming presidential election; all the more so that the President of the Constitutional Council himself is being prosecuted for taking part in a partisan meeting in which participants called the outgoing President to run.
The President of the Republic in office, who is at the same time the National President of the CPDM, in violation of article 7, (4) of the Constitution, and who is a candidate of his party in the upcoming presidential election seems to be sending a clear message to Cameroonians: that they will have to count on themselves, their vigilance and determination to hope that the outcome of the vote will actually reflect their choice and therefore their will. Because this appointment comforts the one-party character of the Constitutional Council and allows to see the milestones of the preparation of a new electoral hold-up.
Such visibly illegal maneuvers are obvious signs of a lack of serenity, and even panic.
I want to reiterate this: the presidential election of 2025 will not be a repeat of the one on October 7, 2018, which was declared “won” by the DRPC candidate, following a vote in which the official rate of validly expressed suffrage made public by the Constitutional Council was of 100.48%.
The Cameroonian people must double their vigilance and prepare an appropriate response to what it is preparing before our eyes.
Made in Yaoundé April 9, 2025
Maurice Kamto, National President of the MRC,
MRC and APC candidate for the forthcoming presidential election.”
The 2025 presidentail election in Cameroon is crucial for the growth of the country described by the international community as fragile.
