Ghana and Chelsea midfielder Michael Essien is in desperate distress as Deputy Sheriff of the High Court (Commercial Division) on June 12, 2024, slams the 41 years old, requesting the former to auction his two houses.
Reports say, the midfielder has incurred heavy financial debts, which have attracted banks to request for the court’s intervention courtesy of the fact that the former Ghana super star had been unable to comply with his financial debts obligations.
Although many news outlets have been claiming that, the former Black star midfielder is facing financial crisis, Angel FM sports’ journalist Saddick Adams revealed the main reason why the court ordered for the sale of his two properties in East Legon and Trassaco.
According to the journalist, Micheal Essien acquired these properties years ago on mortgage, engaging on an instalment payment basis. However these properties were later transferred to his wife Akosua Puni, who therefore was the bearer of the mortgage payments. Unfortunately she failed to comply with the agreed installment payment, triggering the seller to engage to court. Michael Essien revealed in court that he was no longer interested in those properties and entered into negotiations for those properties to be auction to enable him repay the full mortgage and purchase another mansion in a different location. Michael Essien is believed to own other houses in London and could not possibly be in a financial crisis as reported on social media, Saddick added.
Micheal Essien rose to fame as football when he played for French club Bastia (2000-2003) before moving to Lyon (2003-2005) , then to Chelsea 2005 where he achieved great exploits, turning out to be one of the best midfielders in the premier league and Europe. In 2012-2013 he moved to Real Madrid on loan with Jose Mourinho as Real Madrid manager at the time. He later returned back to Chelsea in 2014 before moving to AC Milan same year then to Panathinaikos, Persib Bandung, Sabail, playing just one year in each of the teams.
