Forces of Law and Order in Bamenda have launched a crackdown on hard drugs traffickers in the Regional Capital.In the past weeks elements of the Bamenda Central Police station have arrested and detained several drug dealers and consumers at the Old Town Neighborhood.
The raid comes as the sale and consumption of these very hard substances has proliferated the streets and almost looking like a legal buisness.The repercussions on the society have been devastating as the sell and consumption of these illicit drugs has radicalized the youths.Increased crime waves, banditry, assault,school dropout, prostitution ,insecurity and the decaying standard of morals are all linked to these drugs.According to the Police,the sale of hard drugs like cocaine, marijuana,Thailand,and (Cayou)said to be manufactured from human bones,are rampant in the city.During a double raid ,more than forty persons including women were arrested an detained with a huge quantity of the expensive drug confiscated alongside cash worth Million of francs CFA.
Bamenda Central Police Commissioner, Emmanuel Mbock, says the special operation was ordered by the Regional Delegate of National Security for the North West, Police Commissioner Elung Wilson Njume.
The operations that started on the 21st April 2 024, continued on Sunday 28th April around the outback area in Ntambag quarters, old town.The forces of Law and Order have been accused of complicity in the crime.
Oumarou Bakari,one of those arrested told the press that elements of National Gendermarie usually come to their joints and collect money.
The police has however promised though times for anyone carrying out illegal activity in Bamenda
