Today Sunday 16 June 2024, in Hamburg, Hamburg police have announced the shooting of an individual who threatened them with pickaxe and incendiary device. This incident happened in Saint Pauli district of Hamburg on Saturday 16 June 2024 around 12:30pm, German time near an area occupied by the Netherlands’ fans ahead of their encounter against Poland
The statement from Hamburg Police reads: “At St Pauli there is currently a major police operation. According to initial findings, a person threatened police officers with a pickaxe and an incendiary device. The police then used their firearms. The attacker was injured and is currently receiving medical treatment.”
Over 40,000 football supporters have been in Hamburg peacefully until the incident just 90 minutes before the game between Netherlands and Poland. It should be recalled that, British fans have always been accused of perpetuating violence during games abroad citing the untruthful accusations during the UEFAChampions League final between Real Madrid and Liverpool in 2022 in Paris.
