38-year old Algerian referee Ghorbal Mustapha will be in charge of refereeing the top match of the 4th day of the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in Group D between Cameroon and Cape Verde on June 8 in Yaoundé.
He will assisted by three of his compatriots; Gourari (1st assistant), Zerhouni (2nd assistant) and Gamouh as fourth official. While algeria’s Seychellois Labrosse will be the referee inspector of the encounter. Only the match Commissioner comes from a different country and it is Equatorial Guinea’s Ondo Abeku.Ranked among the top African referees, Ghorbal Mustapha also officiated three matches during the last FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
He was also part of the very exclusive circle of 5 referees retained until the end of the tournament, as they were considered potential candidates to officiate the final between Argentina and France in Doha. Mustapha who has been an international referee since 2014, equally officiated two matches during the final phases of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations(AFCON) in Cote D’ivoire.The Indomitable lions of Cameroon will host the blue sharks of Cape Verde at the Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in Yaoundé on June 8, before traveling to Luanda to face Angola three days later.
Meanwhile, 38-year old Chadian referee , Alhadi Allaou Mahamat will be the main official of the Super Eagles game against South Africa’s Bafana Bafana in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying match at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium, Uyo next month.
12 years as an international referee, Mahamat has officiated in the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup competitions. He was also a referee at the 34th Africa Cup of Nations held in Cote d’Ivoire earlier this year.He would be assisted by Sudanese official Mohammed Ibrahim Abdallah (assistant referee 1), Abelmiro Dos Reis Monte Negro from Sao Tome & Principe (assistant referee 2) and compatriot Pousri Armi Alfred (fourth official) and the encounter has been programmed for 8pm Nigeria time on Friday, 7th June.Ahmed Sayed Abou Elela from Egypt will serve as the referee assessor while Ghanaian Munkaila Nassam Adam will be the match commissioner.
