Nigerian Officials are heavily accusing Russia of Supporting Protests Amid Rising Tensions.The Russian Embassy has Denied any Involvement as Demonstrators Demand for Change.
Some Nigerian government officials have alleged that the Russian government is backing the ongoing nationwide protests, which have already led to the deaths of over 18 individuals.
In response, the Russian Embassy in Nigeria has denied any involvement in the #EndBadGovernance demonstrations. These protests, which began on August 1, is aimed at putting pressure on the government of president Bola Ahmed Tinubu to end what they describe as “bad government” .
Throughout these demonstrations, some participants were seen waving the Russian flag and chanting for the removal of President Bola Tinubu while marching through major streets in northern Nigeria.
The Nigerian government has expressed its intolerance for calls for coups and the display of foreign flags. Chief of Defence Staff Christopher Musa has asserted that such actions are considered “treasonable offences” and will be dealt with severely. Meanwhile, the Russian Embassy has clarified that the use of Russian symbols by protesters is a personal decision and does not represent any official stance from Russia.
