Cameroonian keeper, Andre Onana has won his first title with Manchester United, emerging champion of the Emirates FA Cup, the second most prestigious league in England.
Andre and Manchester United are now 13-time winners of the FA Cup, just one behind Arsenal with the most FA Cup titles by a single club.
In a disappointing season that was almost ending trophiless and with no hopes against giant rivals Manchester City, United turned the Wembley stadium Red this Saturday, May 26, courtesy of goals from Alexanjandro Garnacho and young midfield sensation Kobe Mainoo, coupled with an assuring goal guard despite the 1 goal conceded.
Onana’s stellar performance, including several crucial saves, was pivotal in securing the trophy.
it was a fitting end to a terrible season, which saw United finish eighth in the Premier League, their worst in the era.
André who lost the UEFA Champions League final with Inter of Milan last season against Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City finally got the better of the manager who trained him at Barcelona’s La Masia.
Onana, who joined the English giants last summer from Inter Milan, played a key role in the club’s success this season with an excellent performance in the semi-final against Coventry.
Worthy of note is the fact that the 28-year old keeper has since 2019, finished a season with atleast one trophy, except 2020!
He won three with Ajax in 2019/21, two with Inter Milan 2022-23
and now FA cup winner 2024 with United.
Following the win, the Cameroonian goalkeeper sent a Heartfelt Tribute to Fans, thanking them for their support throughout the season.
Andre thus ends his first season with Manchester United with a silverware, a victory that takes United to the Europa League next season.
Up next will be International duty for the Keeper, who has been summoned for the 2026 fifa World Cup qualifiers against Cape Verde and Angola next month.
