Atleast one person is feared dead and several others severely injured following an explosion at a popular drinking spot near the Bamenda Regional hospital.
The incident which occurred Saturday May 25 at about 8pm local time, reports suggest, was a grenade thrown into the bar targeting Military men who frequent the lessure spot. The frightening loud noise was heard across the city when the attack took place.
There has been no official Communication and no group has claimed responsibility for the deadly attack.
In an amateur graphic video circulating online, a man is laying dead with the remnant of the attack visible.
Separatist fighters operating in Bamenda, have been accused of carrying out several attacks with the use of locally made IED.
The government has been pointing fingers at Separatist fighters whom they describe as “Terrorist” for this kind of attacks which targets military and security forces.
At press time those injured were receiving treatment at the Bamenda Regional Hospital. According to the laws of Cameroon: Law No. 2014/028 of 23 December 2014 on the suppression of acts of terrorism; SECTION 8 on ACCLAMATION OF ACTS OF TERRORISM says, “Whoever publicly acclaims acts of terrorism shall be punished with imprisonment of, from fifteen to twenty years or a fine of, from twenty five million francs (25,000,000) FCFA to fifty million (50,000,000) or both such imprisonment and fine.
