In the bustling neighborhood of Bepanda, Douala, a remarkable story is unfolding—a story of resilience, passion, and faith. Meet Mua Schneider Shekina, a young Cameroonian who has turned her childhood dream into reality, graduating with an HND in Nursing from St. Louis University Institute.

For Shekina, the path was never smooth. From a humble background, she often had to help her mother in her small business to make ends meet. Yet, even amidst financial challenges, she never gave up on her dream of becoming a medical professional.
“It has always been my dream to be a doctor,” she says. “Even when I wasn’t successful at the medical concours after my advanced level, I refused to let that failure define me. My passion to care for people—to assist them in times of need—kept growing stronger.”
That passion led her to enroll in St. Louis University’s Department of Nursing, where she discovered that nursing, too, was a powerful way to fulfill her calling of serving humanity. The journey, however, came with sacrifices—struggling to pay tuition, juggling responsibilities, and facing constant uncertainty.

Still, Shekina pressed on. Guided by her faith, she found strength in the belief that God was paving her way.
“God kept making a way. He showed me mercy and provided for me in ways I cannot explain,” she reflects.
Her determination paid off: she graduated with Upper Credit, a proud achievement that marks just the beginning of her medical journey. Today, Shekina is not only a qualified nurse but also a young woman fueled by the desire to learn more. She is preparing to continue her studies toward a degree, with her eyes firmly set on her ultimate goal of becoming Dr. Shekina.
“I love it so much—to care for people when they are helpless, to offer a helping hand. My dream is to be a doctor, and by God’s grace, I know it will happen.”
