The Head of State’s New Year message places youth and women at the center of national priorities for the years ahead. The announcement of 50 billion CFA to support youth-led projects marks an important step toward job creation, entrepreneurship and social transformation. The commitment to strengthen women’s empowerment and participation in governance responds to long-standing civil society advocacy.
However, the true impact of these announcements will depend on transparent and inclusive implementation. Management of this fund must ensure that women-led initiatives, young innovators, entrepreneurs and community enterprises are not sidelined by bureaucracy, favoritism or barriers to accessing capital.
We also welcome the intention to reform the education system. Cameroon needs a learning model that trains problem-solvers, innovators and productive actors, not only certificate holders. Strengthening practical skills and entrepreneurship is essential for national competitiveness.
Civil society remains committed to contributing constructively while ensuring accountability. Our key expectations are:
1️⃣ Meaningful representation of women and youth in governance structures and decision-making at all levels.
2️⃣ Transparent, fair and results-oriented management of the 50 billion CFA fund across all regions.
3️⃣ Priority support for projects already delivering impact in agriculture, technology, community resilience and local transformation.
4️⃣ Education reform focused on skills, innovation and entrepreneurship that drive national development.
5️⃣ Collaborative implementation with civil society as a strategic partner in monitoring progress. As 2026 begins, progress must include every Cameroonian.
Women and youth must not only be beneficiaries, but leaders shaping the future of the nation. Civil society stands ready to support efforts that strengthen peace, prosperity and social justice , while ensuring that no one is left behind.Together, we believe in a future built on inclusion, dignity and shared prosperity.
