The presidential candidate of the Social Democratic Front (SDF), Joshua Osih, has accepted defeat in the October 12 presidential election.
In a press release made public on Tuesday 14 October, Osih said his party’s data from polling stations across the country show “no doubt about the trends” of the vote.
“Even though the results have not been favourable to me, the people have spoken, and the verdict of the ballot box is clear,” he wrote. “We accept this outcome in full respect of the will of the Cameroonian people.”
Osih Recognizes Tchiroma’s Lead

Reports from many polling stations indicate that Issa Tchiroma Bakary, the candidate of the Front for the National Salvation of Cameroon (FNSC), is leading President Paul Biya, who has ruled Cameroon for 43 years.
Tchiroma has already claimed victory based on results collected by his party.
Calls for Honesty from the Constitutional Council
Osih urged the Constitutional Council to be fair and independent as it handles complaints about election fraud and prepares to announce the final results.
“I hope the Council will proclaim the results exactly as expressed by the people,” he said. “Once that is done, I will call the winner to congratulate him.”
Message of Peace and Hope
Osih ended his statement by calling for calm and unity.
“My greatest wish is that this victory should serve ordinary Cameroonians — men and women who just want to live with dignity, work, and believe in their country again,” he said. “Because beyond parties and candidates, it is Cameroon that must win.”
Mixed Reactions
While there has been no official reaction from the ruling CPDM, celebrations were reported in some towns where Tchiroma supporters believe change has finally come.
If confirmed, this election could mark the end of Paul Biya’s long rule and open a new chapter in Cameroon’s political history.
